Philippine Southeast Asian Games organizer faces complaints from foreign football teams
Manila, Philippines — Reports say, foreign football teams, who are part of the Philippines 2019 SEA Games, took to social media to vent out their complaints to the organizer of this hotly-anticipated event.
The report was first seen through the Facebook page of the ASEAN Football News, claiming that the football team of Timor-Leste was left stranded at the airport for more than two hours and was taken to the wrong hotel.
“They arrived time at 5 am after they waited for the bus support around 2.30 hours and then driver man take care staffs and players to wrong hotel,” reads the post of ASEAN Football news, referring to the Timor-Leste football team. “Oh my god we are ASEAN friends. Pls support all team good as good.”
Another Twitter user then reported that Timor-Leste players were not along in terms of having a tough time during their arrival.
The user, with the handle Diego Magallona, said that he has so far seen posts of athletes from Thailand and Myanmar relating their bad experiences upon their arrival in the host country.
He further said that their posts are filled with an array of comments coming from their citizens who are angry about the “poor treatment of their teams.”
On top of that, the national team of Thailand said they needed to cancel their Saturday training session because their accommodation is located more than two hours from the training area.
Further, Myanmar athletes also claimed they were even forced to travel via a crowded bus because there were not enough transport facilities.
In the meantime, the organizer has pushed out a statement of apology to the affected athletes.
“We sincerely apologize to our athlete guests from Timor-Leste, Myanmar, and Cambodia for the inconvenience caused to them by the confusion regarding their transportation and hotel arrangements.
It also promised “to do better.”
