Manila, Philippines – In a surprise announcement late Friday night, President Rodrigo Duterte addressed the nation in a video and that he has announced the suspension of all gaming and gambling activities that are played through the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, or PCSO. This is in light of what he called as “massive corruption.” in the corporation.

The next day, all Lotto outlets were closed. The President also enlisted the help of the Philippine National Police and the Philippine Army in making sure that there is no one playing anything coming from PCSO.
In another sudden announcement as well, the President, through Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo, has ordered the lifting of the suspension of Lotto operations. What this means is that all Lotto outlets are free to start operating once again. The lifting of the suspension was to take place immediately.

From a news article published in The Inquirer, this change came from an advise to the President by Executive Secretary Salvador C. Medialdea. From a statement made through a text message, Medialdea has mentioned that investigations that were opened saw that they found no problems regarding how Lotto is operated.

With the announcement, however, it only pertains to the operation of Lotto. Other games like the Small Town Lottery, Keno, and Peryahan ng Bayan are still suspended until investigation is completed for them as well.
